The Huis van Zessen, founded in 1510, is Alkmaar's oldest existing courtyard. It was intended for six old Catholic men. As its final destination, the building was part of the town hall complex.
The facade was renovated in the 19th century in neoclassical style. The large Empire windows and the block plasterwork date from that time. Inside there are several rooms in neo-Renaissance style: the main hall (1910) and the regent's room (1922).
The courtyard, a national monument, is located in the center of Alkmaar in the Schoutenstraat between the Langestraat and the Laat.
